The #FreeBritney campaign has officially succeeded, as Britney Spears' conservatorship is finally over.
The end of the 13-year conservatorship was confirmed today, as Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Brenda Penny ruled in favour of the arrangement's termination. Spears is free to make her own personal, financial and professional decisions. She is being freed without any further evaluations of her mental health.
The campaign to end the conservatorship has been continuing both in and out of court all year. After the Framing Britney Spears documentary shed light on the conservatorship back in the winter, Spears spoke out and asked for the end of the conservatorship back in June. Her father, Jamie Spears, agreed in August that he would step down as her conservator. He later asked a judge to end the conservatorship, and he was suspended from the conservatorship in September.
Britney Spears has said that the conservatorship was "abusive."
