Last year saw Voivod deliver EP The End of Dormancy and live LP Lost Machine, and the Quebec metal institution have no plans to slow down with the announcement of a new studio album and documentary film.
Last week, Voivod launched a Kickstarter campaign to continue work on their official documentary, We Are Connected, which has since passed its funding goal of $45,000.
Directed by Felipe Belalcázar (Death By Metal, Metal Evolution), We Are Connected is set to feature archival footage and exclusive interviews with George Stroumboulopoulos, Canadian rock writer Martin Popoff and more in taking viewers on a "sci-fi, thrash-metal journey into the Voivod dimension."
"We have worked with Felipe in other projects and we have a mutual understanding of Voivod's story," drummer Michel "Away" Langevin shared in a statement.
Belalcázar added, "We managed to film about a quarter of the interviews planned before the pandemic hit in March 2020, and plan to resume production once cross-border restrictions are lifted."
Of a follow-up to 2018's The Wake, Langevin offered, "Presently, we are fine-tuning the music for the next album, which we will start recording next week. I must say it's a real thrill to write new material with [guitarist Daniel "Chewy" Mongrain], [bassist Dominic "Rocky" Laroche] and [vocalist Denis "Snake" Belanger]."
In 2019, The Wake captured Voivod their first Juno Award for Metal/Hard Music Album of the Year. The album was also long listed for the 2019 Polaris Music Prize.
