Viet Cong Reissue 'Cassette' EP on Mexican Summer

BY Alex HudsonPublished May 6, 2014

Viet Cong's stock is quickly rising. The Calgary band, which features two former members of Women, recently signed to Flemish Eye and Mexican Summer, and now they've announced plans to reissue their prior tour EP on July 8 via their U.S. label home.

As we reported last year, the seven-song collection is simply titled Cassette, even though it's now being released on vinyl and digital download. It was recorded in a basement studio in 2013, and a press release describes it as "a mixture of sharply-angled rhythmic workouts and euphoric '60s garage pop melodies, balanced with a penchant for drone-y, VU-styled downer moments."

Cassette will be coming out on Mexican Summer. Flemish Eye hasn't announced whether it will be handling the release in Canada. While the entire release was previously up on Bandcamp, you can currently hear the tracks "Throw It Away," "Unconscious Melody" and "Oxygen Feed" the bottom of this page.
