Underoath

They're Only Chasing Safety

BY Jasamine White-GluzPublished Jul 1, 2004

Underoath is one of the more original bands to spring from the screamo music scene, infusing ferocious intensity with interesting electro sounds. On this new release, the band has taken some liberties by becoming quite poppy, perhaps even too much so for the avid hardcore fan that is fond of their earlier, heavier work. Metal-influenced riffs are replaced with more screamo sounding guitar parts. Nonetheless, "Dangerous Business” has got a gothic beauty to it, while "I’m Content with Losing” is the perfect summer road trip soundtrack. The album is still completely enjoyable, even if it has grown more melodic and less metal.
