Toronto singer-songwriter Deanna Petcoff might be a little back-and-forth on some things, but she's definitive in readiness to release her debut album — and she's shared a Michael Pugacewicz and Paige Foskett-directed video for new single "Devastatingly Mediocre" to mark the occasion.

Promising to be anything but the titular sentiment of its lead single, the confessional To Hell with You, I Love You is due April 8 via Royal Mountain Records.

Petcoff pieced together the body of work over the course of a year, wanting to capture "the whirlwind of emotions you have when you're grieving a relationship, which can feel like the death of a part of you or what you thought your life was going to look like," according to a release.

The artist's wistful, bluesy textures and playful sardonicism are on full display with "Devastatingly Mediocre," which follows 2021's "Failing Upwards" and "I Don't Wanna Get Over You."

Of the inspiration behind the new single, the singer-songwriter said:

I wrote this song when my friend was dating the most boring guy alive. He really was so normal, met the bare minimum of being a decent person — and yet she was so infatuated with him. At first I wrote this as a joke because I always called him devastatingly mediocre just to tease her, but when I showed it to my band, they loved it and we decided to make it something real. I think it actually holds a lot of meaning for a lot of people; it's so easy to fall in love with someone just because you want to be in love, regardless of whether or not it really works.

Taking aesthetic cues from the Avril Lavigne "Sk8er Boi" canon, the video sees Petcoff take a bike ride to the skate park to bask in the mediocrity before she's eventually chased by a pack of wild, beanie-clad indie-sleazers led by Scott Helman.
