Last winter, Toronto's Mod Club Theatre announced it would be closing its doors for good after nearly 20 years in operation. Earlier this year, whispers of a new venue taking over the Mod Club's College Street West location were heard among locals, and now, that rumour has become a reality.
The space has been taken over by new management and renamed the Axis Club, having undergone extensive renovations prior to its reopening later this year. The 618-person-capacity venue will mark its official reopening with the All Axis Festival from September 9 to 10.
While further details about the grand opening's festivities remain under wraps, we have learned that the Axis Club's renovations include a new, state-of-the-art sound system and lighting system, as well as multiple 4K cameras for live broadcasting capabilities.
According to a release, the All Axis Festival will give fans, artists and industry partners "a full access first look at the newly updated venue, including a reveal of the new production and hybrid setup, built to produce the ultimate music fan experiences."
The Axis Club has partnered with hybrid ticketing platform Happin for the event, while a portion of ticket prices from the September festival will be donated to the Unison Benevolent Fund.
Ticketmaster listings for later in the year reveal scheduled performances by Marie Davidson, Crown Lands, Best Coast, Sleigh Bells and more.
Prior to its 2020 closure, the Mod Club played host to Post Malone, Car Seat Headrest, Royce 5'9", Angel Olsen, Com Truise, James Blake, Partynextdoor, Lana Del Rey, the Weeknd and many more over the eyars.
