The Weeknd is once again making some seriously upwards career moves — this time by landing his very own HBO show.
Today news broke that the Canadian artist born Abel Tesfaye will lead a new scripted series called The Idol, which is now in development with Euphoria creator Sam Levinson for HBO.
Tesfaye will not only star in the series, but he will also co-wrote and executive produce The Idol, Deadline reports.
According to the report, Tesfaye co-created the series alongside Levinson and Reza Fahim, who also serves as the Weeknd's creative producer. The show "follows a female pop singer who starts a romance with an enigmatic L.A. club owner who is the leader of a secret cult," as Deadline put it.
Joseph Epstein will serve as showrunner and writer on the project, while Levinson, Tesfaye, Fahim, Epstein, Ashley Levinson, Kevin Turen, Bron Studios' Aaron L. Gilbert will executive produce the series.
The Idol is in its very early stages, but stay tuned.
