Testament

Seen Between the Lines

BY Chris AyersPublished Feb 19, 2007

There’s been little video documentation of thrash kings Testament’s rise to power but 1991’s Seen Between the Lines VHS is now remastered on DVD with welcomed bonuses. Most importantly, this disc spotlights this San Francisco band’s former glory days of playing large venues backed by ten-foot-high walls of Marshall amps. The camera work for these classic live films is mostly grainy, blurry and jumpy, though they’re interspersed with worthwhile backstage antics, fan footage and travel clips. Testament’s maturity is demonstrated in their videos, as there is a definite progression from the primitive "Nobody’s Fault” and "Practice What You Preach” to the MTV-ready "Souls of Black” and "The Legacy.” Extras include tour footage of Japan, complete discography and a mini-poster.
