Hardcore thrash pioneers Suicidal Tendencies' current lineup — ex-Slayer member Dave Lombardo handling drums, the fairly unknown but extremely talented Ra Diaz on bass, longtime guitarist Dean Pleasants and, of course, vocalist Mike Muir — is probably one of the best they've had in years. With a stacked roster like that, you would expect a re-recording of Muir's debut solo album to be incredible; instead, STill Cyco Punk After All These Years is mostly tedious.
Songs like "All Kinda Crazy," "F.U.B.A.R." and "All I Ever Get" are fantastic examples of how great the band's members can work together to create hyper-technical punk music without overshadowing each other. Although the raw aggression from their youth isn't likely to ever be as present at this point, Suicidal Tendencies are still capable of making fun punk songs.
That said, later in the album tracks such as "Lost My Brain...Once Again," "Gonna Be Alright" and "Ain't Gonna Get Me" start to feel exhausting; the band are impressive on their instruments, but the songs themselves are a little weak and forgettable.
It's nice to hear updated versions of these tracks recorded, but at the same time, STill Cyco Punk After All These Years is a bit of a strange addition to Suicidal Tendencies' discography. Had the record been included as a bonus to an album of new material it would have been a fun release, but standing alone makes it more evident the songs on the record weren't really strong enough to deserve being redone in the first place.
