Sonic Youth's Lee Ranaldo Signs to Mute for New Solo Album

BY Josiah HughesPublished May 5, 2017

Sonic Youth axe man Lee Ranaldo has been plucking away his six-stringer in one way or another over the years, though he hasn't delivered a proper solo LP since 2013's Last Night on Earth. That'll change soon, as the grey fox has announced plans for a new LP.

Ranaldo is set to drop another album called Electric Trim sometime this year. While the exact date has not been confirmed, we've learned that it will arrive via his new label home at Mute.

Of the new release, Ranaldo said, "I'm thrilled to have Mute releasing my new album, I am so excited about this record, I think it's possibly the best thing I've ever done. I look forward to working with Mute friends old and new and getting this music heard."

A documentary about the album's creation will screen at New Jersey's Montclair Film Festival this weekend. You can also catch a trailer for that film below.

Further, Ranaldo has a string of American tour dates in the works. Check out the full itinerary here.
