Sonic Youth’s Reverb Shop Gets Restock with Studio-Used Guitars and Pedals

Including Lee Ranaldo's first-ever electric guitar

Sonic Youth are restocking their Reverb shop, and this time around, the pickings include studio-used guitars and pedals, among other items.

Having first established themselves on Reverb in 2018 when they sold a wide range of over 200 pieces of gear, followed by their return in 2022 when they released a batch of tape reels, the seminal '80s–'90s rock band are now taking to the online music store for the third time to give their fans another opportunity to own a piece of Sonic Youth history.

Perhaps the most notable item up for grabs in this year's restock is Lee Ranaldo's first-ever electric guitar, a Hagstrom II, which he played in his high school bedroom.

Ranaldo shared, "At some point, when my first band, the Fluks, was playing, I needed an amp, and I traded this guitar and like $60 to my drummer at that time, David Linton's sister, who had a Super Reverb Amp… That became my first target amp, and basically set the precedent for exactly what I wanted to play out of the rest of my life… This was responsible for me getting the first one, and it came back to me recently through David's sister."

Among the other items available for purchase are a Ludwig Phase II synthesizer heard on Washing Machine's "The Diamond Sea," a Mu-Tron Bi-Phase used on multiple albums including A Thousand Leaves, a custom-built Parametric EQ, and Urei Studio Monitors from the Knitting Factory, which were gifted to Sonic Youth when they first set up their Echo Canyon studio.

The Official Sonic Youth Reverb Shop reopens on May 21.
