Soccer Mommy has shared the second single from her upcoming Oneohtrix Point Never-produced album Sometimes, Forever — "Unholy Affliction" is a prickly, creeping industrial number that shows a very different facet of the Soccer Mommy sound than effervescent first single "Shotgun."
Sophie Allison's music as Soccer Mommy has always drawn heavily from the textures and moods of the '90s, but "Unholy Affliction" finds her messing around with sounds more akin to Nine Inch Nails and Portishead than Pavement and Liz Phair. There are whispers of Nirvana's "Something in the Way" in there too — it's a cool song! In a statement about the shadowy, clattering track, Allison said:
"Unholy" was really fun in the studio because the end result was totally different from what we expected. Dan made this really cool sequence with the demo vocals that wound up becoming most of the song. It was nice to have 2 different versions of the song that kind of mashed together.
Listen to the track below. Sometimes, Forever arrives June 24 on Loma Vista.
