Slash has some concerns about the future of AI in the music industry.
The Guns N' Roses guitarist and Ryan Gosling collaborator told Collider in a recent interview that, at the end of the day, the technology's power depends on the people who wield it — but he doesn't trust humanity (and why should he?).
"It's a little scary to me because I think we have a tendency to take advantage of any really cool technology, to the point of overdoing it and using it as a crutch and losing all integrity to technology," Slash said.
He went on, explaining that he knew AI-created music would get "out of control in no time" when he heard an AI cover of Guns N' Roses lead singer Axl Rose taking on "Fall to Pieces" by Slash's short-lived band Velvet Revolver.
Don't add him to the list of anti-AI celebs just yet, though. He softened as he continued to explain his stance, eventually landing on a split point of view similar to Christopher Nolan's.
He's specifically optimistic about the upside of the technology, saying: "There's a ton of really cool, interesting stuff that can be done with it."
