The people have spoken, and it's unanimous: let's go, girls. Timmins, ON's own Shania Twain will receive the Music Icon award at the 2022 People's Choice Awards — a fan-voted celebration of the best in music, TV, movies and pop culture.
The annual festivities will air on December 6, live from the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, CA. In addition to being bestowed the honour in its second year (Christina Aguilera received the inaugural edition), Twain will perform a medley of her greatest hits, as well as her new song "Waking Up Dreaming" from forthcoming album Queen of Me, at the ceremony.
"I'm so incredibly honoured to be named 'Music Icon,'" the country legend said in a statement to Billboard. "I have some of the greatest fans in the world. They have supported me since the early days, and it's their love and passion that keeps me going. I'm thrilled to go back on tour and bring my new music and fan favourites to them, and what better way to start than at the People's Choice Awards!"
Twain last took the PCAs stage in 2005, when she was named the favourite female country singer. This time around, her fellow honourees include Lizzo, who will receive the People's Champion award, and fellow Canadian Ryan Reynolds, who is to be named the People's Icon.
It's safe to say that the Twainaissance is going stronger than ever, with the singer-songwriter also being honoured with the Poet's Award by the Academy of Country Music in September, being cast in the upcoming Beauty and the Beast anniversary special and getting her own Netflix documentary, Not Just a Girl.
