BY Josiah HughesPublished Oct 17, 2019

With his impossibly catchy 2000 earworm "It Wasn't Me," Shaggy penned the perfect excuse for getting out of hot water. Perhaps the potency of the excuse has worn off, because the performer born Orville Richard Burrell has now said there's an internet scammer posing as him online.

Shaggy took some time to post an Instagram update warning that a false Shaggy has been running an "internet scam." Without getting into too many specifics, the grift involves "posts online from people purporting to be me and hitting up my fans for money while making false claims that they owe me something."

Read Shaggy's full post below, and just remember that if you get scammed by a guy that looks and sounds like Shaggy, it wasn't him. Or was it?
