Sampha Unveils 'Dual' EP

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Jul 8, 2013

Following collaborations with the likes of SBTRKT, Jessie Ware and The xx, UK electronic artist Sampha has announced he'll issue his own Dual EP on July 29 through Young Turks.

Described in a press release as "an intimate and idiosyncratic glimpse into Sampha's artistic intent," the six-song EP comes in the wake of acclaimed team-ups like SBTRKT's "Hold On" and his "Valentine" duet with Ware. He also recently appeared on new Drake number "The Motion."

Sampha revealed to Pitchfork that the record touches on themes like growing up with an absent father, working through personal problems and, as on "Without," the confusing nature of one-night stands.

"I was just thinking about my own natural way of one-night stands: always wanting to be more attached to something," he said, admitting "Without" was written after meeting someone. "I'm not very good at detaching myself. Maybe I was being a little bit over the top."

While Young Turks describes the set as Sampha's debut, the musician issued his Sundanza CD-R in 2010.
