Good news, sports fans: it's going to be another Super Bowl prompting tweets about a football game interrupting the year's biggest pop concert. Rihanna has been announced as the headliner for the NFL's Super Bow lLVII 2023.

The wealthiest woman in music previously turned down an invitation to perform at the event in 2019 out of solidarity with Colin Kaepernick. Yesterday (September 25), she teased fans by posting a photo of her outstretched arm holding an NFL-branded football on Instagram shortly before the the league — alongside Jay-Z's Roc Nation and Apple Music — confirmed the news.

"Rihanna is a generational talent, a woman of humble beginnings who has surpassed expectations at every turn," Jay-Z said in a statement. "A person born on the small island of Barbados who became one of the most prominent artists ever. Self-made in business and entertainment."

A couple days before the announcement was made, TMZ reported that Taylor Swift had been approached to headline the event, but declined the offer, saying she wouldn't take the gig before completing the process of re-recording her first six albums.

Super Bowl lLVII will take place February 23 at Glendale, AZ's State Farm Stadium. Last year's halftime performers were Dr. Dre, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, Mary J. Blige and Snoop Dogg.
