It's the 30th anniversary of Red Hot Chili Peppers' landmark 1991 album Blood Sugar Sex Magic, but rather than celebrate that milestone, the band instead have announced a 2022 tour.
The four members — Anthony Kiedis, Flea, Chad Smith and returning guitarist John Frusciante — announced the news with an elaborate PSA, as they dressed up like newscasters and delivered a three-minute broadcast.
Kiedis and Flea play the news anchors (Johnson Hammerswaddle and Todd the Squirrel, respectively), while Smith is weatherman Randy Raindrops. Frusciante, who is clearly quite uncomfortable with the whole situation, plays himself and announces the tour as a guest on the broadcast.
There aren't yet any concrete details about the shows, but the video clarifies that it will be a global tour. The US leg will start in July 2022.
Meanwhile, RHCP still haven't formally announced their new album, despite hints from Frusciante's barber and a crying Rick Rubin. The above tour announcement video includes a clip from "Give It Away," rather than any new music.
