"We had more time to think of new things and less distraction," says keyboardist Flake Lorenz

Last year, just as fans were getting stoked for Rammstein's massive North American stadium tour, the band were forced to postpone on account of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. While those dates have since been rescheduled for this summer, the band have been keeping busy recording new material at La Fabrique studio in France — and now, they've revealed that the downtime has helped them to complete an entire record in lockdown.

Speaking in German with Motor.de, keyboardist Flake Lorenz explained, "The fact that we couldn't perform live increased our creativity. We had more time to think of new things and less distraction. As a result, we recorded a record that we hadn't planned on."

Back in October, Rammstein shared photos from the French studio to their Instagram, sparking rumours about a new body of work.

The forthcoming effort will follow the release of 2019's Untitled, the album that they would have toured behind last summer. It remains unclear when the new work will be released, but if all goes to plan, fans may catch a glimpse of new music to come at this year's rescheduled tour if it actually takes place.

In the meantime, you can relive the live show experience with Rammstein's re-released Live aus Berlin concert film and watch footage of the band's 60-hour stage setup
