Q-Tip has long been at work on an anticipated solo album dubbed The Last Zulu, and a new update from the A Tribe Called Quest mastermind reveals that effort will soon see release — along with two additional new albums.
Celebrating his 50th birthday — and the 30th anniversary of ATCQ debut People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm — the Abstract checked in with fans on Instagram mid-bass jam, thanking them for celebrating and wishing them good health and safety ahead of revealing the three forthcoming full-lengths.
As he shared, The Last Zulu will arrive alongside new albums titled Algorhythms and Riot Diaries. "Thank u god willing I will get with u soon," he wrote.
You can watch him deliver the news alongside the groove below.
In 2012, Q-Tip signed to Kanye West's G.O.O.D. Music/Def Jam to release The Last Zulu, an album he first made mention of working on as early as 2010. Following his work on A Tribe Called Quest's final album, 2016's We Got It from Here… Thank You 4 Your Service, he made mention of the album again on Twitter in 2018, writing, "The last Zulu aka the riot diary #ComingSoon."
Last year, Q-Tip served as executive producer of Danny Brown's album uknowhatimsayin¿. In announcing the collaboration, Q-Tip also noted that he was at work on a trio of solo albums, in addition to a separate project with Mary J. Blige.
While a release timeframe for the albums has yet to be revealed, Algorhythms, Riot Diaries and The Last Zulu will follow Q-Tip's 2009 solo effort Kamaal the Abstract.
Along Brown, Q-Tip has also recently worked with Gang Starr and Eminem.
