With less than a month to go before this year's Polaris Music Prize gala in Toronto, many music fans out there may be discussing the merits of the 10 albums that made the coveted shortlist. But what of all the albums that didn't make the cut? Organizers behind the prize are now sharing the details on every single album that was suggested by a jury member this year.
A blog post on the Polaris site has unveiled "the longer list," with the intent of giving "hardcore music fans the chance to dig even deeper into the records that turned on our jury this year."
"It's not easy for an album to earn a Polaris Music Prize nomination," the post states, explaining that albums can only officially enter the running once a jury member suggests an album they feel is worthy of winning.
This year, 225 titles were brought up for discussion between jury members on a private message board. An initial vote brings the suggestions down to a 40-album long list, which is then whittled down in a second vote to yield the shortlist.
As you can see down below, the longer list features familiar short and long list names like Basia Bulat, Grimes, White Lung, Drake, Kaytranada, Carly Rae Jepsen, PUP, Jessy Lanza, Black Mountain, Andy Shauf, Jazz Cartier, U.S. Girls, the Weeknd and more.
The list quite obviously also features a number of acts that didn't make it past the first round of voting, despite having passionate supporters. This includes Cindy Lee, Slim Twig, Roy Woods, Greys, Les Goules, Sarah Davachi, Dralms, Azari & III, Bob Moses and many, many, more.
