Polaris Music Prize Unveils 2016 Long List

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Jun 15, 2016

Each year, one Canadian artist is awarded the prestigious Polaris Music Prize, and the long list of nominees for the 2016 edition has just been announced.

The list of 40 albums was unveiled at a press conference in Whitehorse today (June 15).

Like in years past, the prize honours the best Canadian album "without regard to musical genre or commercial popularity," as selected by a panel of music critics. The eligibility period includes albums released between June 2015 and May 2016.

The 40-album long list will be narrowed down to a short list of 10 records before the grand prize of $50,000 is awarded at a ceremony in Toronto on September 19.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves, though. Without further ado, here is the 2016 long list of nominees.
