In case you missed I Mother Earth's reunion show in Toronto earlier this month, let it be known that Edwin and the boys have now announced their previously teased run of national dates. If you're a '90s-era Cancon fan, hold on to your Doc Martens boot tabs, because it's also been revealed that the tour is with Our Lady Peace.
The joint tour was announced today (June 20) in a press release, which notes that the two bands will be making their way across parts of Western Canada and Ontario this October. The trip begins October 15 in Abbotsford, BC, and will close out a couple of weeks later in Oshawa, ON. Also joining the bands throughout will be the Standstills.
The OLP/IME pairing makes perfect sense for a few reasons. Not only were the alt-rock-styled bands both big hitters in the '90s Canadian music scene, they had toured together way back when they were promoting their respective debut discs — I Mother Earth for 1993's Dig and Our Lady Peace for 1994's Naveed.
"We've always had immense respect for IME," Our Lady Peace vocalist Raine Maida said in a statement. "From their very first album Dig, the tour that followed and the Edgefests after that they solidified themselves as a seminal CDN rock band. To share the stage again is exciting both for our common fans & selfishly for us as well."
As previously reported, I Mother Earth had said that 2016 will see them playing festivals and booking "Evening with…"-style shows with Edwin on vocals, their first performances with the singer since 1998.
The band also apparently have "special releases" in the works, but it's unclear exactly what that means. It may be worth noting, though, that the group's sophomore set, Scenery and Fish, turns 20 this year.
