Published Apr 01, 2020As promised, Orville Peck is back with new music today — his first new single since he released his debut album over a year ago.
The masked cowboy has shared "Summertime," alongside a Drew Kirsch & Taylor Fauntleroy-directed clip that sees our boy frolicking in fields of flowers before becoming one with nature, morphing into plant life himself.
"I wrote this song a long time ago and to me, Summertime has a few different meanings," Peck wrote of the new track in a statement. "Summertime can be a season, a person, or a memory of a happier time that can be difficult to visit. We also wanted the video to focus around the idea of how we treat nature. Ultimately this is a song about biding your time and staying hopeful — even if it means missing something or someone."
"Summertime" is Peck's first new single since the release of his 2019 debut album Pony. While today marks the song's official release, Peck has been playing the track in at-home livestreams and IRL concerts for a while.
So far, Orville has not shared plans to release his sophomore follow-up. The artist has, however, moved from Royal Mountain/Sub Pop to Columbia Records since his debut.
