Olivia Rodrigo Shares New Single "vampire" from Sophomore Album 'GUTS'

It's the follow-up to 2021's watershed 'SOUR'

It sort of feels like 2021 was eons ago in a scary, not-normal way. But that year was undeniably the year of Olivia Rodrigo, leading a new generation of Disney Channel stars taking over the pop culture universe. Now, she's back with the announcement of her heavily anticipated follow-up.

GUTS arrives September 8 via Geffen. It's the follow-up to 2021's unparalleled SOUR — one of Exclaim!'s 50 best albums of the year, featuring some of the country's most-streamed songs (which continued to have a chokehold on our Spotify Wrapped stats for 2022).

UPDATE (6/30, 9:15 a.m. ET): "vampire" is out now. The song is a climactic rocker that begins as a piano ballad before rising to a pounding crescendo. Watch the video, directed by Toronto's Petra Collins, below.

Rodrigo announced its lead single, "vampire," earlier this month, ahead of the song's pending arrival this Friday (June 30). She penned the track alongside GUTS producer and returning SOUR collaborator Daniel Nigro.

"For me, this album is about growing pains and trying to figure out who I am at this point in my life," the pop star explained in a statement. "I feel like I grew 10 years between the ages of 18 and 20 — it was such an intense period of awkwardness and change. I think that's all just a natural part of growth, and hopefully the album reflects that."

UPDATE (8/1, 1:26 p.m. ET): Rodrigo has now shared the album tracklist, which you can check out below.
