Old Man Luedecke Teams Up with Joel Plaskett for New EP

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Jan 29, 2014

Just ahead of his upcoming Canadian tour, East Coast folkie Old Man Luedecke (a.k.a. Chris Luedecke) has announced the details behind a new EP he'll promote on the trip called I Never Sang Before I Met You.

Due to drop February 4, two days before his coast-to-coast trek begins, the four-song EP features three new tracks that Luedecke recorded with fellow Nova Scotian Joel Plaskett at the latter's New Scotland Yard Studios in Dartmouth. This does not include the previously hinted-at composition "Monsanto Jones," but does feature two takes of "Baby, We'd Be Rich," in clean and "cuss" versions.

In addition to handling the production duties, Plaskett also performed "a variety of instruments" on the recordings, marking the first time the two had worked together in a studio setting.

"The broadened palette, sensibility and attention to detail he brings as a producer was as thrilling as it was inspiring," Luedecke said in a statement. "It's a long way from the field recordings I admire so much but feels like a great stage of the journey."

Plaskett added: "When Chris inquired about me producing a few tracks for him I couldn't pass it up. There were certain sounds and ideas that Chris liked from my own records so he gave me a lot of room to run with it as a producer. You can hear my personality and playing on the tracks but at the heart of it all are his great melodies and lyrics."

You'll find Luedecke's tour and EP info down below.
