New Arcade Fire Song "The Lightning I, II" Arriving on Thursday

They've shared the song's chords so you can play along

Arcade Fire have been teasing new music for a hot minute now, but we've finally got some concrete news: the band will release their new single "The Lightning I, II" this Thursday (March 17), and they've shared the song's chords so that fans can play along.

The band's last album was 2017's somewhat grating, electronics-heavy Everything Now, but this new rollout seems much more palatable and low-key, so we're already off to a better start (so long as they don't attend any more Las Vegas crypto galas).

The band hasn't really released anything in the years since besides a 45-minute instrumental piece for the meditation app Headspace. However, back in 2020, the band performed new song "Generation A" on Colbert, and that same year Win Butler said he'd written "two or three" Arcade Fire albums during lockdown. Is the streak of big-deal indie double albums going to continue?
