After building up pressure in the pre-release stage, My Morning Jacket's new The Waterfall LP is flowing out in full force. Just this morning (May 4), the album hit physical and digital retailers, but you can also get swept up in the song cycle through a full-length album stream.
Opener "Believe (Nobody Knows)," as you'll discover in the Spotify player down below, is ambitious and full of cinematic strings, big guitar chords, rippling synth tones and a busily-paced, barrelled-out Jim James vocal line. "Get the Point" dials it down to a gently finger-picked guitar melody, brushed snare drums and the plaintive wail of a pedal steel. "Only Memories Remain" dabbles in '70s canyon country, psych, and maybe a little bit of blue-eyed soul, with James giving up more than a few fantastic falsetto cries.
As previously reported, we'd already been treated to a few sneak previews, like "Compound Fracture" and "Spring (Among the Loving)."
You can let the Kentucky crew's latest long-player come crashing down on you down below.
