Ms. Lauryn Hill and the Fugees' US tour celebrating the 25th anniversary of The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill — recently named the best album of all time by Apple Music — was set to continue through late summer and fall after. Now, three days before the run was set to kick off in Tampa, FL, on Friday (August 9), they've quietly cancelled the tour without explanation.
UPDATE (8/7, 8:52 p.m. ET): Hill has issued a statement on the cancellation, posted to Instagram in conjunction with the Fugees account. She explained that the UK and European dates this fall are still on, and cited "unforeseen circumstances" as the reason for the US dates being pulled, opting to divert attention to "some media outlet's [sic] penchant for sensationalism and clickbait headlines" creating a narrative that her vocal injury "affected ticket sales for the North American portion of the tour."
Late yesterday (August 6), ticketholders received the following message from Live Nation: "Your event has been cancelled. A refund will be on its way to your account soon."
Hill and the group were slated to perform 18 concerts across the US through August and September, all of which have now been removed from Ticketmaster. They're still live on Hill's website as of this writing.
It's been a tough road for Fugees since first announcing their plans to reunite for a tour in 2021. That year, they played a reunion show in New York but ultimately had to cancel the rest of the dates with COVID-19 cases running rampant, only finally getting to play some of the shows in 2023. Hill herself is kind of well known for being late to her own performances, and had to postpone a number of solo gigs last year due to "serious vocal strain."
