Morrissey Announces New Album 'I Am Not a Dog on a Chain'

He's also launching a massive reissue campaign in 2020

Morrissey has just announced plans for his 13th solo album via his "Messages from Morrissey" forum on Morrissey Central. The record — due in March via BMG — is called I Am Not a Dog on a Chain. What's more, the former Smiths leader is set to launch an extensive reissue campaign in 2020.

The singer calls his new studio album "the very best of me… too good to be true… too true to be considered good…"

According to the message board, the record's first single is titled "Bobby, Don't You Think They Know?" and features Thelma Houston. It will feature the B-side "Rainbow Valley," which is a cover by the Love Affair.

The album was recorded in St-Rémy, France, with producer Joe Chiccarelli. For the full tracklisting, see below.

On top of the new album arriving in 2020, Morrissey will be launching an extensive reissue campaign through BMG as well. According to the post, the reissues will get updated artwork and sleeve notes, and include the solo records Southpaw Grammar, Maladjusted, You Are the Quarry, Ringleader of the Tormentors, Years of Refusal and Live at the Hollywood Bowl.

I Am Not a Dog on a Chain will mark the singer's second album in two years following the release of this year's California Son.

Hopefully, the new record will help fill Morrissey's merch stand, so he doesn't need to sign and sell other artists' records to meet sales quotas.

So far, BMG has not confirmed the release of the upcoming album.
