Monomyth

"Cool Blue Hello" (video)

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Apr 17, 2017

Halifax-bred indie rockers Monomyth delivered their latest LP, Happy Pop Family, last year, and now they've unveiled a new clip for a track off that very album.

The video for "Cool Blue Hello" serves as a mirror image of sorts, delivering an inverted version of their previously shared video for "Aloha." Whereas the latter delivered surf-inspired summer time-travelling fun (at the dump), the "Cool Blue Hello" video takes viewers through the same story — but set in wintertime. Travelling back in time to December 1922 (rather than July), the bandmates swap surfboards for skis and snowsuits for another trip to the dump.

Speaking about the meaning behind the song itself, the band's Josh Salter tells Exclaim!:

This song was an attempt at emotional honesty and catharsis through art. Sometimes when you are alone you notice the desire lines drawn in the sand and realize others have walked the same path before you. If you are lucky you also notice when those lines are washed away with a rogue wave. Just don't let the salt water ruin your suedes.

You can see "Cool Blue Hello" get paired with its new video down below. And for a direct side-by-side comparison of "Aloha" and "Cool Blue Hello," head on over here.

Also, be sure to catch Monomyth at their Exclaim!-presented Canadian Music Week show on April 19 at the Baby G in Toronto. Happy Pop Family is out now via Mint.
