Mogwai to Release New Soundtrack for French TV Show

BY Alex HudsonPublished Nov 26, 2012

Mogwai's year so far has included a new remix album and a planned film score, and now the Scottish post-rock act have been confirmed for yet another soundtrack, this time for a French TV show called Les Revenants.

Mogwai will release the score via their own Rock Action Records, who will deliver a version of the soundtrack as a 10-inch vinyl EP on January 28 in a limited edition of 2,000. This will be followed by a full soundtrack on February 25 on CD, LP and digital download.

UPDATE: Sub Pop will release the soundtrack in North America on February 26.

Speaking with The Quietus, the band's John Cummings described the show like this: "It's a Twin Peaks, Twilight, zombie kind of thing. The police are involved, but it's not a crime thing."

The Mogwai material was written before the show was shot, with the mood of the music apparently helping to shape the tone of the filming. Les Revenants translates as "the ghosts."

Cummings added that, unlike some scores, their soundtrack will include full-length tracks rather than brief snippets. Discussing the sound of their compositions, Cummings said, "It's all pretty... sedate's not the right word. Calmly unsettling."

Watch a trailer for the show below. It premieres on French television network Canal+ tonight (November 26).
