"No one should have to endure hateful language or behaviour at a show. Let's keep calling out misogynists and showing them the door and maybe this shit will stop happening."

Having spent many years of their lives enmeshed in the music industry's particular brand of misogyny, Softcult's Mercedes and Phoenix Arn-Horn (formerly of major-label act Courage My Love) have made the punk feminism of the '90s riot grrrl movement a core component of the band's ethos. It seems like somebody at their show in Lawrence, KS, last night (October 4) amid their tour behind latest release see you in the dark must have missed the memo.

In a statement posted to the platform formerly known as Twitter — with a middle-finger emoji for good measure — the twins recalled an incident of having to kick a man out of the concert for not only yelling derogatory things at them while they were performing, but throwing a drink at a woman in the crowd and starting a fight with someone who tried to defend her.

"We stopped the show mid-song when we saw a commotion in the audience, not sure of what the situation was," they wrote. "He was escorted out by security, and then proceeded to CALL THE COPS because he got thrown out of the show lol."

"We are so sorry to anyone who had to deal with this asshole. Thank you for calling out misogyny at our show," the Arn-Horns added. "No one should have to endure hateful language or behaviour at a show. Let's keep calling out misogynists and showing them the door and maybe this shit will stop happening."
