Major Lazer

"Original Don"

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Oct 12, 2011

We're still waiting for Major Lazer, the electro-and-dancehall-inspired project from Diplo and Switch, to deliver their proper follow-up to 2009's Guns Don't Kill People... Lazers Do (no, the Lazer Don't Die EP doesn't count), but for now, this radio rip of new track "Original Don" will have to do.

The new tune, premiered on BBC Radio 1 by DJ Zane Lowe, pops off full-tilt, with the song switching from scattershot snare rolls, crowd chants and chopped-up lead vocals to a brassy, swung mid-section to laid-back dub beats surrounded by, what else, laser sounds. It's heady and hopefully a sign of things to come.

Neither a title nor release date has been set for the previously reported follow-up, which is said to feature guest spots from Lykke Li and members of Vampire Weekend, among others. But it reportedly will drop early 2012.
