After stringing listeners along with a trio of singles in the wake of releasing Human Energy last year, Machinedrum has set his sights on something bigger in the second half of 2017 by announcing his own label.
The producer born Travis Stewart will head up new label IAMSIAM, for which he'll also play curator and producer. Throughout his career, Stewart has previously released music through the likes of Ninja Tune, Planet Mu, LuckyMe and more.
"This is a huge milestone for me. I've wanted to start my own label ever since I learned what one was back when I was a kid," Stewart told Clash. "IAMSIAM feels more like a family than a label to me. All the music we are releasing is created by close friends of mine which makes it a super special and a personal thing for me. It's also an opportunity for me to showcase the myriad of collaborations I'm involved in as most of the releases are produced by me."
IAMSIAM's launch comes accompanied by a track from Toronto-bred, Los Angeles-based vocalist Rochelle Jordan. "How U Want It" finds her R&B-indebted vocals matched up with Machinedrum's forward-thinking production. Jordan appeared on Stewart's Human Energy, in addition to lending her vocal talents to "Fight For Us," a track from Stewart and Praveen Sharma's Sepalcure project.
