M for Montreal Details 2020 Virtual Edition, Featuring Mac DeMarco and More

BY Kaitlin IrvingPublished Nov 6, 2020

In less than two weeks, the virtual edition of M for Montreal 2020 will kick off. Running from November 18 until November 20, M for Montreal has gone online due to the pandemic, but the principle remains the same — to bring together music professionals from around the world to showcase the best of the music scene here and abroad.

This will include a performance from Mac DeMarco on November 20 at 7 p.m. The singer-songwriter — who performed at M for Montreal way back in in 2012 and 2013 — will be the guest soloist in a virtual event broadcast via lepointdevente.com

As for M's Official Selection — which will also include a virtual Canadian showcase program available to PRO badge holders — it will include showcase programs directed by Éric Morin and Parce que Films, with Pestacle contributing to the scenography. Evoking the mythical Ed Sullivan Show of the '70s and Limehouse Studios' The Word of the '90s, these events will take the form of virtual concerts open to the public.

On November 18, le Montréal Magique Musique Show will feature Flore Laurentienne, Laurence-Anne, Maude Audet, Population II and Totalement Sublime. The following evening on November 19, the Anglophone-focused Montreal Magic Music Show will showcase Alex Nicol, Edwin Raphael, Janette King, Paul Jacobs and Shay Lia. Both nihgts will have the duo of Paul Spence and Laurence Giroux-Do providing the entertainment.

M for Montreal will also present a selection of "Bands to Watch" — a selection geared to shine a light on tomorrow's international scene. The festival's virtual PRO Space will present more than 100 international guests, as well networking activities, beginning November 18.

As for conferences, two have been announced thus far: one about the future of live music in light of the pandemic, and another exploring ways to transform the compensation model of streaming services.
