Ottawa-based musician Kalle Mattson's "An American Dream" first appeared on a 7" single before later kicking off his newest full-length, Someday, The Moon Will Be Gold.
However, third times a charm for the Canadian singer-songwriter, as evidenced by this new, impassioned take on the song coming via Exclaim! TV, for whom Mattson performed a beat-less take on the track alongside trumpeter JF Beauchamp.
The song comes from an album written during a pilgrimage of sorts, as Mattson returned to his hometown of Sault Ste. Marie to come to terms with the death of his mother.
The artist and his band will be stopping by his hometown on June 4 for a show at Sault Ste. Marie's Café Natura, before trekking on to Toronto and Ottawa as part of North By Northeast and Ottawa Bluesfest respectively.
In the meantime, watch this unique, stripped-down version of "An American Dream" (performed in Canada) on Exclaim! TV in the player below.
