Just a day after Julie & the Wrong Guys dropped their self-titled debut album, they treated Supercrawl's late afternoon crowd to a thundering, unabashedly honest set.
Comprised of Julie Doiron, Eamon McGrath and Cancer Bats' Jaye Schwarzer and Mike Peters, the group ripped through the record's first two tracks — "Love and Leaving," where Doiron's sweet vocals are the high point, and the raucous "You Wanted What I Wanted" — before pausing for a breath.
In between the roar of heavy guitar riffs and pounding drums, Doiron humbly expressed her gratitude for organizers and audiences alike. When an onlooker called out to ask where the band called home, Doiron elaborated on the varied answers to that question. She resides in Sackville, NB, Peters lives on the opposite side of the country in Winnipeg, and Schwarzer and McGrath are based in Toronto.
Nevertheless, Julie & the Wrong Guys delivered a unified performance that proved that the kilometres between them can't diminish the camaraderie they share.
