In one of the most excellent actor-subject pairings in recent memory, Jonah Hill has been cast as the late Grateful Dead frontman Jerry Garcia in a new untitled biopic helmed by legendary director Martin Scorsese.
Details on the upcoming Apple project are pretty scarce so far, though according to Deadline, numerous Grateful Dead band members have stepped up to the plate to contribute.
Shorty short enthusiast and founding Dead guitarist Bob Weir is on board to executive produce alongside the group's Phil Lesh, Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann, as well as Garcia's real-life daughter Trixie Garcia, and Eric Eisner.
Hill will also produce the film, whose screenplay is being helmed by American Crime Story writers Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski.
The film will mark another entry in the Dead oeuvre for Scorsese, who brought the Grateful Dead doc Long Strange Trip to life in 2017.
In lieu of a trailer, revisit some early Dead concert footage — and try picturing Hill's face over Garcia's — below.
