Jon Spencer and the rest of his fabled Blues Explosion have returned to let us know once again that the blues is number one via their next album, Freedom Tower - No Wave Dance Party 2015. Consider this your invite: Mom + Pop liberates the group's 10th album on March 24.
The follow-up to 2012's comeback effort Meat and Bone is described in a press release as presenting "the savage funkacide of the Blues Explosion," with the 13-song set said to feature plenty of "predatory riffs." The collection was cut at the Daptone House of Soul in Bushwick, NY.
Ahead of the album release, you can sample the gritty, funked-up first single "Do the Get Down." Since the album is said to be "a document of New York City," the video for the cut features a series of vintage, Big Apple-saluting visuals. As you'll see down below, this includes footage of the New York Dolls and Talking Heads, movie clips from Taxi Driver, gruesome newspaper headlines and more.
