Jon Schaffer – guitarist for Tampa metal band Iced Earth – is being sued for his involvement in the January 6 Capitol riot by District of Columbia Attorney General Karl Racine, in the latest development in the ongoing saga for the former rocker and accused white nationalist

As reported by CNN, Racine has filed the complaint "in an effort to recover the millions of dollars the city spent to defend the US Capitol during the seditious riot on January 6."

Schaffer and the other defendants are accused of "conspiring to terrorize the District by planning, promoting, and participating in the violent January 6, 2021, attack on the United States Capitol Building," and are therefore "jointly and severally liable for the damages suffered by the District as a result of their unlawful conspiracy."

The lawsuit in question seeks compensatory and statutory damages, though the actual amount has yet to be determined.

In the suit, Schaffer is described as "a founding, lifetime member of the Oath Keepers." The Oath Keepers are a far-right anti-government group that has been described as an extremist organization by those that monitor domestic terrorism in the US.

Schaffer was held in custody for 89 days after turning himself in following the riot, and was released exactly 100 days after the event took place. He'll be required to eventually return to court for sentencing, and he continues to be monitored.
