Jimmy Buffett's longtime backing band, the Coral Reefer Band, have shared plans to continue touring in honour of the late singer's last wishes to "keep the party going" after his death last month.

"The Coral Reefer Band is second family to all of us. We are a family. And Jimmy wants us to continue and we want to continue," said guitarist and singer Mac McAnally in an interview with Billboard.

While the band has yet to decide on the best way to move forward, McAnally says the Coral Reefer Band are eager to continue to share Buffett's music with his fans, while trying to find "the best way to do that, the most practical way to do that and how to do it in a way that is worthy of the legacy that we're part of."

Although the band has seen a few changes in its members over the years, the Coral Reefer Band began backing Buffett in the 1970s. McAnally began playing for Buffett in the 1990s, while keyboardist Michael Utley had been playing with him since the beginning. The band's last show with Buffett took place in May, prior to his hospitalization.

"I can't wait until we [figure it out] because we miss being out there, playing his songs to people and feeling that alternating current go back and forth from the stage to the crowd. I don't know who's got more energy, them or us," McAnally told Billboard.
