Jessie Reyez had to cancel her Ottawa RBC Bluesfest performance last week, and now she's shared a health update about the injury that prevented her from performing.
Reyez originally implied that she had injured her knee at Firefly Festival on June 23, but it turns out after consulting with multiple doctors and getting an MRI, that she has a herniated disc in her lower spine.
In a new Instagram post, Reyez explained that the inflammation from the herniated disc has been affecting other nerves and muscles as well.
She went on to explain that "wear and tear" likely aggravated the disc, and at her Firefly show, her "back just gave out."
It makes sense, given her reputation for raucous, high-energy stage performances.
Thankfully, Reyez seems to be recuperating well.
"The good news is I'm getting better by the day," she said. "And with proper rest and rehab all signs point to no surgery. "
Reyez hasn't offered any updates on her upcoming festival dates, but she is currently still scheduled to perform at Squamish Constellation Festival, Osheaga and River & Sky in the coming weeks.
