Yesterday (April 8) was quite a day for Jack White. He released his new album Fear of the Dawn, he performed "The Star-Spangled Banner" at the Detroit Tigers game, and he got engaged and then married during his show at Detroit's Masonic Temple.
White proposed to girlfriend Olivia Jean during a performance of the White Stripes' single "Hotel Yorba" — a song that includes the lyric "Let's get married / In a big cathedral by a priest."
That song was the last one in the main part of the set. Just minutes later, White returned for the encore, and the couple emerged with their families. White's Third Man Records business partner Ben Swank is evidently an ordained minister, since he married White and Olivia Jean on the spot.
Olivia Jean was the lead singer of garage rock band the Black Belles. White produced their 2011 debut album, which came out through Third Man. Olivia Jean has since released two solo albums, both on Third Man. She was the opening act at last night's show.
