Islands' Nick Thorburn Teams Up with Man Man Front-Man for New Project

With Islands' recent Vapours full-length out of the way, front-man Nick Thorburn has announced that he's planning a new side-project. The group, which does not yet have a name, will be in collaboration with Honus Honus (aka Ryan Kattner), the front-man for experimental Philadelphia group Man Man.

Speaking with Spinner, Thorburn revealed that the duo have been casually working on tracks together for some time. "We're just trying to make each other laugh and enjoy each other's company creatively," he said. "We won't release a proper record necessarily... We're probably going to release all the tracks on the Internet at the same time, do something forward-thinking."

That's all well and good, but the project also has one of the worst new genre tags since "shit-gaze." In the interview, Thorburn said they're referring to their tunes as "doom-wop." "I guess I coined the term sort of facetiously. I'm not sure how much doom metal will actually shine through," Thorburn said, adding, "One of the completed songs has more of a 'doom-reggae' feel than doom-wop." Gross!
