Hunx and His Punx Share New Single, Play Montreal and Toronto on North American Tour

BY Josiah HughesPublished Jan 25, 2011

Flamboyant bubblegum rockers Hunx and His Punx recently signed with Seattle label Hardly Art and recorded their debut album Too Young to Be in Love with Richard Hell and the Voidoids' Ivan Julian. The previous Hunx recordings were enough to stoke anticipation for their release, but the leak of a new track suggests that this record will be even better than expected.

The album's opening track "Lovers Lane" can be downloaded here and it definitely coincides with Hunx's promise to make "young oldies," which he describes as "a mixture of '50s teenage rock'n'roll, '60s girl groups and bubblegum pop." The song is a mid-tempo, heartbroken waltzer that utilizes all the Punx with complementary female backing vocals and slow-building dynamics.

Fortunately, those looking for a slow dance to "Lovers Lane" won't have to throw their own sock hop, as Hunx and His Punx will be embarking on a full North American tour with support from Hunx bandmates Shannon and the Clams. The spring trip includes a stop at SXSW and Canadian shows in Montreal and Toronto. All dates are available below.

Too Young to Be in Love will be released on March 29 via Hardly Art.

UPDATE: We've just been informed that Shannon and the Clams will be bringing Vancouver-based musician Daniel Pitout (of Nü Sensae and Eating Out) to be their drummer on all dates.
