Quebec phenom Hubert Lenoir had already shared a single from his upcoming sophomore album, and now he's laid out the full details of PICTURA DE IPSE : Musique directe (including a slight change from the previously announced title of Musique directe). The album is out on September 15 through Worse/Terrible Records and Simone Records, and Lenoir has shared the single "DIMANCHE SOIR."
The album features 20 tracks across 54 minutes, with songs interspersed with field recordings including snippets of dialogue, street noise, FaceTime sounds and more. The album taps into Lenoir's personal feelings surrounding childhood bullying and the public backlash he recently faced over his expressions of gender and sexuality.
Parts of the album were recorded in L.A., including a trip to Mac DeMarco's house that resulted in DeMarco recording drums on prior single "SECRET." Elsewhere, the album features R&B and hip-hop influences, with Lenoir shifting away from the glam rock of his past work and embracing synths and drum machines.
To coincide with the album announcement, Lenoir has shared a video for the song "DIMANCHE SOIR." Of the track, the singer said, "Coming from a conservative background and going to school in the countryside of Quebec, a lot of my parents' friends or partners thought I was this weirdo queer artsy no good loser, and once I achieved success with my art in the last two-three years, the whole vibe started to change. I remember being so confused by it. The song talks about social pressure coming from your family circle and materialism. How weirdly your social status and wealth can switch the opinion people have on you."
