Kirin J. Callinan Gets Hubert Lenoir for New Song "Young Drunk Driver"

Kirin J. Callinan has previewed his first album of original material since 2017 with "Young Drunk Driver," a new single featuring Hubert Lenoir.

The collaboration with the award-winning Quebec artist is the first taste of If I Could Sing, a new album the Australian singer-songwriter says will be out "sometime in the southern winter o 2023." It will follow his 2019 covers collection Return to Center, which arrived after 2017 sophomore album Bravado.

As downright hilarious as Callinan and Lenoir can be, getting behind the wheel impaired is no laughing matter. Lyrically, the songwriter pleads with the titular irresponsible youth to leave their keys behind: "I've seen the future / You die behind the wheel."

The intercontinental collab comes complete with a wild video directed by Ollie Birt, which sees a red hatchback arrive anywhere but the roadway, Lenoir tapping in via FaceTime, and Callinan leading his own faithful, equally glistening homage to D'Angelo's video for "Untitled (How Does It Feel)."

Lenoir shared sophomore album PICTURA DE IPSE : Musique directe in 2021. The album — which was short listed for the 2022 Polaris Music Prize, and captured Lenoir a 2022 SOCAN Songwriting Prize — was recently nominated for Francophone Album of the Year at the 2023 Juno Awards.
