Hedley singer Jacob Hoggard was sentenced to five years in prison for sexual assault, but he's already out on bail pending an appeal.
Hoggard was released from custody last night (October 20) following his sentencing. He won't serve prison time until his appeal is heard.
Court of Appeal Justice Grant Huscroft said that he could not assess the strength of the appeal, but that Hoggard poses "no safety or flight risk concerns" [via Toronto Star]. On those grounds, he was released until his conviction is reviewed by an appeal court.
Hoggard has been out on bail since 2018, when he was released on a $215,000 bail.
He is also facing another sexual assault trial, this time in Kirkland Lake, ON, for a separate case.
