Hear the Week's Best New Canadian Music: Zeina, Ducks Ltd., Abby Sage, TOBi

BY Exclaim! StaffPublished Jan 5, 2024

Along with the inevitability of a new year, there's also, mercifully, the inevitability of new music. Even if it just begins with a slow trickle, Canadian artists are evidently gearing up to do it for the plot in 2024 with this first week's slate of new releases. And we get 51 more of these!

Zeina reworks Shawn Desman's timeless, classic bop "Shook," and Ducks Ltd. continue to preview Harm's Way with another Staff Picks-worthy single (catch us chanting "Quack! Quack! Quack!" all year long). Meanwhile, Toronto-born alt-pop riser Abby Sage faces an "Obstruction," and playlist mainstay TOBi drops yet another killer guest verse on a track with XV and Mike Summers.

Toronto's WIENER KEBAB and Andrew Hyatt are starting off 2024 with a bang, the former releasing an EP and the latter releasing a full-length this first week of its first month.

Elsewhere, we have a track from Richard Reed Parry's score for The Iron Claw — and although it's only available on Bandcamp, don't miss out on Said the Whale drummer Spencer Schoening's new solo EP, Weigh the Windblows.

Start the year off on the right note with The Eh! List below, presented by Mary Brown's Chicken & Taters — all Canadian and proud of it!
